About
Project: Understanding Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating in Autistic Individuals
Institution: Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Project Overview
Summary:
This project seeks to better understand the etiology and lived experiences of eating disorders (ED) or disordered eating behaviors in autistic individuals. Through a mixed-methods approach, the study will explore the research priorities and experiences of autistic individuals, parents, and service providers to guide future research and interventions in this area. The ultimate goal is to improve health outcomes and inform future research efforts on eating disorders within the autistic community.
Methods:
The study will be conducted in two phases:
- Qualitative Phase: In-depth interviews with autistic individuals, parents, and service providers to identify key themes.
- Quantitative Phase: A survey informed by the interview themes, aimed at understanding barriers and needs in treating ED among autistic individuals.
Deliverables and Timeline:
Deliverables include a publishable manuscript, presentations to stakeholders, and foundational data for future grants and research. The study will progress through interviews, theme analysis, survey development, and final reporting over the course of the grant period.
