Mission Statement
The MIND Institute is an interdisciplinary, collaborative research, clinical, and educational center committed to deepening our scientific understanding of the challenges associated with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions. Studies ranging from basic biological research to clinical treatment trials have led to new understanding of genetic and environmental causes of neurodevelopmental disabilities, identification of differences in brain structure and function, groundbreaking interventions, and advances in very early diagnosis.
Ongoing Projects
Longitudinal GI Symptoms In Autistic Individuals
GI symptoms are frequently endorsed by autistic individuals and their families. GI symptoms like constipation and pain have been associated to behavioral problems and impact of quality of life. Using a longitudinal sample, we are analyzing the presence, severity, and persistence of GI symptoms in autistic children compared to TD.
ECHO Autism
ECHO Autism is a multidisciplinary teleconferencing program with the purpose of increasing providers’ knowledge and confidence caring for autistic individuals.
Evaluating GI symptoms In Autistic Individuals
Evaluating the applicability of the most recent version of the ROME criteria in the diagnosis of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders (FGIDs) in the ASD group.
